Fairfax County Updates Commercial Submission Processes

As of January 9, Fairfax County's Building Division issued a new set of process changes in order to improve processes for customers. According to the jurisdiction, the goal is to "improve speed, consistency and predictability."

The major process changes include:

  • ePlans Launch: Reviews of new commercial structures and interior alterations can be submitted and reviewed using ePlans software. The major benefit is that projects eligible for review in the Fast Track Program increases from 4,500 SF to 10,000 SF, provided that all documents are submitted via ePlans.
  • Commercial Walk-Thru Program: Customers will now be able to apply for same-day review for a number of permits, including Systems Furniture, Tenant Demo, Sales Trailers and more.
